This reissue of the classic guide for the 1949 housewife was originally published in post-war Britain, and its lasting appeal and fascination have endured through the years. Although the wartime emphasis on making do is paramount, we see glimpses of a new world of luxury” with Washing and Ironing with Electricity” and Making a Modern Divan Bed.” Advice on every aspect of the housewife’s life is given, from managing household chores to finding useful hobbies to pass the time. Arranging menus, basketry, leatherwork, care of the complexion and hair, and building a hat wardrobe are all covered in this delightful look at the past. These 50 suggestions are funny and charming, but all provide a fantastic insight into a woman’s life and aspirations after the watershed of the war.

REVIEW :
Tonight I have to say that the 'beef on a string' is about the best damn thing I've ever had. I love grand adventures, but I'm most interested in characters and their personal paths. Standards were virtually nonexistent because nobody was sure yet what they ought to be.
All of which makes this a fascinating lens into the past including looking at the ways we imagined the future. Can we read it right now again?
She gives it a 5 out of 5 rating
My Take:
My daughter and I hadn't read the previous Gabby book by Sheila Walsh when we received Gabby's Stick to it Day, so it was a brand new story for us.
The cover of the book went above and beyond, with glitter added for texture and dimension. I've also decided to write a review for TLAP because I've written a few other ones this week and I feel like something more should be said about this
