James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851) was a famed nineteenth century American author known for his work in fiction particularly sea stories and historical novels and politics. He enrolled in Yale University, never earned a degree but later joined the United States Navy. Basically this volume is about Slomoko and the 'Principal', I think. But despite the change in format, the unifying factor (unifactor?) is the sense of an unpredictable but somehow dependable moral calculus that is operating in his strange world - much like in the regular universe. The book outlines how tea masters tried to live their lives according to the simple grace of the Japanese tea ceremony.
